ABSTRACT
This work aims to examine an important aspect of Celso Furtado’s work: the criticism of the disfunctions of liberal ideology under the circumstances of undervelopment in primary-export type economies. Starting from the rejection of the market automatisms, Furtado defines a function to the State’s political action, posessing more protagonism and intervention capabilities. The anti-liberalism of its theses do not condone to the authoritarian tradition, but instead, produce an unprecedented perception of the democratic needs for the developmentis project.
