ABSTRACT
The current article aims to rethink the notions of cordiality, trickery and authoritarianism - as they are presented, respectively, in the works of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, Antonio Candido and Roberto Schwarz -, in order to suggest the validity of such concepts for the interpretation of contemporary Brazilian moment. To this end, it recalls and puts such notions in perspective, bringing them closer to the present situation.
