ABSTRACT
This current text endorses Bento Prado Jr.’s (1937-2007) suspicion that there would be some continuity between the themes and style of Mário de Andrade (1893-1945) and Gilda de Mello e Souza (1919-2005). Considering music as a paradigm, by taking up, one by one, the thematic relationships suggested by Prado Jr., it is proposed, in this work, a debate regarding the Mario-Andradian concept of unfinished as an element of Gilda’s aesthetic. It is hoped, therefore, to contribute to a deeper understanding of the essayistic form practiced by the author as a more social than theoretical position.
