Abstract
This essay, which is fundamentally historical and theoretical and qualitative in nature, seeks to discuss democracy in Brazil, linking it to its socio-historical formation. To this end, we portray the role of the state, the configurations of the dominant classes in their fractions and disputes, as well as the formation of the latter. In this way, we understand reactionarism as a particular form of action to maintain the class order in Brazilian sociability, as a basic incursion of the dominant classes in their relationship with the state. The aim of this essay is to discuss the democratic weaknesses present in Brazil today, in relation to its historical past.
