Abstract:
This article aims to demonstrate the functionality of piecework wages in work mediated by digital platforms. Based on the assumptions of the Marxian critique of political economy, it presents the foundations of the process of flexible accumulation, the peculiar type of technology that it fosters, and the advance of labor precarization. Subsequently, the work mediated by digital platforms is problematized as a corollary of this accumulation regime, in face of the structural crisis. It is found that the supposed mediation consists of an elaborate mechanism of labor control, in which the piecework wage plays an important role, even under the pretense of the end of salaried work.
