Societal transformations: repercussions on social work

Abstract

This article discusses the impacts and challenges of social work in the context of societal transformations in modern capitalism, reflected in all aspects of social life. The analysis is based on bibliographic research through a literature review of the works by Paulo Netto, Guerra, Iamamoto, and Souza. The study observes that the crisis of capital triggers changes that have demanded broad societal transformations, including transformation in professions and, particularly, social work. The profession of social work is part of a broad process of labor precariousness, involving both training and professional practice. It is a process marked by flexible and unstable contracts, often without labor and social security rights. The study points out the attacks on social policies based on policy commodification, selectivity, and focalization. Also, it is possible to identify the resumption of conservative theories and practices, which have found fertile ground to be disseminated.
