Abstract
This article reflects on the debate about sexual diversity and gender in social service articulating challenges and limitations at the heart of the professional category, in relation to fighting homophobic violence. The study conducts a theoretical analysis based on the conceptions of various authors and researchers, as well as documents from federal and regional councils of social service [CFESS/CRESS] such as informative documents and resolutions. The debate problematizes the professional action of social workers, demands presented daily by the LGBT population and various contradictions that this issue has provoked for social workers, which has become a great challenge to contemporary social service.
