This paper aims at discussing the issue of sleep and its perturbations from the standpoint of fundamental psychopathology. It thus seeks to detect critical articulations between the strictly subjective plane of the symptoms linked to insomnia and their inscription within the contemporaneous socio-cultural context. Its especially focuses on the ways men now deal with the helplessness dimension of their existence.
