We aim to address the notion of countenance based on its insertion in Lacanian teaching and fields. Thus, the goal was to compose a critical balance of the concept - trying not to structure it as pure imaginary nor as accessory term in the composition of sexuation formulas. Accordingly, we refer to contemporary discussions about identities highlighted since the theory of gender, proposing an approximation between countenance and the concept of performativity by Judith Butler.
