This article discusses representations of the gaze in relation to the phenomenon of the double. To do so, it analyzes the literary pieces of authors from the Romantic period who made this phenomenon the central theme of their stories and novels. The conceptualizations of Freud and Lacan will allow for a clinical reading of this subject.
