Searching to see beyond the theatricality and seduction on hysteria, this article intends to situate and develop the hypothesis that psychopathology of melancholia can set up a paradigm for the comprehension of the suffering on hysteria.
Passing between the empty and the lack, the subject who has his hysterical defenses disorganized by the failure of the phallic ideal changes his discourse and, from someone dissatisfied with having nothing, he becomes to feel himself as someone who is nothing.
Starting from a clinical material, the specificity of hysterical suffering is related to the melancholy, and both of them are related to a set of problems of femininity.
