The issue raised by this paper is that of the ohgin of the necessity to seek after psychological causes for suffering and disease, turning the pathos of such crucial expe- riences into the pursuit of an exptanation the reason might accept. Based on some clini- cal fragments and on Tausk's texs analysis upon "the genesis of the influencing machine" in schizophrenia, this work attempts to make the specificity of the psychoanalytic positions expticit with regard to the psychological propositions (sometimes influenced by the very psychoanalysis) and their "comprehensive " and explanatory features as for this question.

It is proposed that "the causal tendency in psychoanalysis constitutes a resistance to the very psychoanalytic method" and that a peculiar bereavement work is required from the psychoanalysis, which consists in renouncing once and for all to the claims for established senses in favor of the acknowledgment, based on the psychoanalytic situation context, that one may "suffer without reason" and that our thoughts form themselves "out of the encounter of our desire with some fragments, word and phoneme leftovers".

It is concluded that the necessity of finding psychological causes for suffering derives from the original experience of language acquisition itself, a mythical time when a one language apparatus worked for two bodies, that founds the denatured relationship of human beings to their own bodies, for which the ego -desperately - seeks a definitive explanation.
