Female frigidity, differently from male impotence, does not necessarily show up as a symptom. During analytical work it can take on the status of suffering for the subject. What parameters can psychoanalysis offer to identify the cause(s) of frigidity? In this article, we take up aspects treated by Freud in his famous analysis of Princess Marie Bonaparte, who suffered from frigidity. Lacan will help us underline the question of how to deal with transference so that that dialectics of love, desire and jouissance can find a place in the psychic world of a woman who occupied the defensive position know as frigidity.
