Destructivness and survival of the object in domestic violence

Resumos

Can we distinguish between the unconscious logics that lead to lethal or non-lethal domestic violence? The literature on perpetrators suggests that all domestic violence can lead to a fatal end for the victim. Destructiveness, the survival of the object and its role shed light on the clinical analysis of the violent act narratives of two subjects found in a prison context. Beyond the differences in the marital and personal histories of these men, what emerges is a lack of access to the ambivalent conflict of love and hate. Both acted with lethal violence in a context of narcissistic survival in the face of a symbolic attack, in Baum’s case, and an imaginary attack, in Paul’s case, during a conflict with another person who may or may not have survived. Existential and verification aggression partly distinguish the unconscious logics at play.

Key words:
Destructivness; survival of the object; domestic violence; unconscious logics
