Specialized literature points to a link between abundance and eating disorders in a given country’s population. The authors’ experience at different institutions did not confirm this link. Observation shows that many of the patients they attended on – all of them from a very poor social class – present a significant cultural differentiation in terms of their social status. These differences seem to lead them towards deeper questions provoked by anorexia and bulimia. Our present article - whose core are adolescence, the body and narcissism - develops this theme.
