When adopting the Cartesian position that separates mind and body, science, especially medicine, takes the body as an object of scientific investigation. The body is dissected by the anatomic and rational clinic that excludes the subject. Psychoanalysis is directly concerned with what science sets aside, thus opening up a field of knowledge by subverting Descartes´ cogito, thus creating a new clinical basis that takes into account the dimension of the jouissance of the body.
