The opposition between adult and child in Freud’s theory concerns: on the one side, sexual life (child sexuality/adult sexuality) and on the other hand, cognoscitives faculties (child theories/adult theories). The neurosis is the double expression of the two child poles. Mental health is it’s opposite.
For many reasons, this position has been abandoned by post-Freudians theories who find psychical phenomenon repetitive and archaic. The neurosis won’t be considerated any more as contingent but as inevitable. This point of view makes psychopathology disparate, which is one of psychoanalysis dangers now a days.
