This article consists of a discussion of the possibilities of appropriation by clinical psychiatry of knowledge produced by the neurosciences. The article includes a criticism of eliminativist reductionism and proposes that the principles that caracterise clinical experience should determine the above-mentioned appropriation. The contributions by Edelman and Damasio are analysed as possibilities for fruitful dialogue.
