The vegetation in the area comprises forests and 'campos de altitude', occurring at around 2000 m, and the highest peak is the Pico da Bandeira, the highest point in the Southeastern region, with 2890 m. Myrtaceae is represented in that area by six genera and a total of ten species: Blepharocalyx salicifolius, Gomidesia affinis, Gomidesia clausseniana, Marlierea angustifolia, Myrceugenia alpigena, Myrceugenia ovata, Myrcia obovata, Myrcia subcordata, Myrcia venulosa and Pimenta pseudocaryophyllus.
