Hornworts (Anthocerotophyta) and thallose liverworts (Marchantiophyta) from Ibiapaba Plateau, Ceará, Brazil

ABSTRACT

The Ibiapaba Plateau, north zone of Ceará, Brazil, has a total area of 5,071.142 km 2 with altitudes ranging from 800 and 1,100 m. In the bryophytes floristic survey conducted in the area, two species of hornworts were found, belonging to two families and two genera. The thallose liverworts presented 10 species distributed in four families and six genera. Among the species found, Aneura pinguis (L.) Dumort., Riccardia cataractarum (Spruce) K.G. Hell, Riccia fruchartii Steph. and Symphyogyna podophylla (Thunb.) Mont. & Nees. represent new records for the Brazilian Northeastern region. Identification keys for species, geographic distribution, ecological notes, substrate and important taxonomic characters are given.
