Abstract

Sapotaceae has 53 genera and about 1,100 species mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions. They occur especially in lowland moist forests, up to 1,000 m, and their main center of diversity is the Neotropics. In Brazil, 14 genera and about 200 species are registered, almost 70 of which can be found in the Northeast region. The flora of Sapotaceae from Usina São José, Igarassu, Pernambuco, is presented in this study. Seven genera and 16 species were recognized in the area: Chrysophyllum marginatum, C. rufum, C. splendens, Diploon cuspidatum, Manilkara aff. dardanoi, M. salzmannii, Micropholis compta, Pouteria bangii, P. caimito, P. gardneri, P. glomerata, P. grandiflora, P. reticulata, P. torta subsp. gallifructa, Pradosia lactescens and Sarcaulus brasiliensis.
