Abstract
This study focuses on the Potamogetonaceae found in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Southeast Brazil. It is based on a morphological analysis of herbaria collections, as well as on a review of the relevant literature. A total of four species were recorded for the state: Potamogeton illinoensis, P. montevidensis, P. polygonus e P. pusillus, occurring in specific regions of the state (Cabo Frio, Carapebus, Itatiaia, Jacarepaguá, Macaé, São João da Barra and Teresópolis). Identification key, description, habitat data, phenology, and geographic distribution are also provided.
