Bromeliaceae in Atlantic Forest fragments of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Abstract

The vegetation fragments of the municipality of Juiz de Fora, in the Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais region, are part of the Atlantic Forest Domain, and considered priority for the conservation of the flora in the state. The present work presents a taxonomic study of the family Bromeliaceae in the forest fragments of the municipality. Bromeliaceae is represented in this region by 10 genera and 23 species. Tillandsia is the most representative genus, followed by Aechmea and Billbergia. We also report the first occurrence of Vriesea grandiflora for the Minas Gerais state. Included in this study are a key identification, descriptions, illustrations, taxonomic comments, as well as information on the geographic distribution and conservation status of the species.
