Campanulaceae in the highlands of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil

Abstract

The Campanulaceae comprise ca. 2,400 species and 84 genera with cosmopolitan distribution. In Brazil, the family includes 55 species, distributed mainly in the Atlantic Forest of the Southeastern region. This manuscript presents a floristic treatment of the Campanulaceae from the highlands of Rio de Janeiro state. Eighteen species, distributed in five genera were recorded: Centropogon (1spp.), Hippobroma (1 spp.), Triodanis (1 spp.), Lobelia (5 spp.), and Siphocampylus (10 spp.). Most species occur at high altitude, in grasslands and anthropic areas. L. santos-limae is the olnly endemic species in the state, it was considered as critically endangered of extinction. The occurrence of Triodanis perfoliata is a new occurrence for the state. Illustrations, descriptions, identification keys and comments on distribution and morphological aspects of the species are presented.
