Abstract
We perform the taxonomic floristic survey of Symplocaceae for the state of Ceará, as part of the “Flora of Ceará: knowing to conserve” Project. The study was based on the comparative analysis of morphological characters of specimens from herbaria ALCB, EAC, HUVA, IPA, R and UPCB, specialized bibliography, as well as photos of type-collections. For the state three species of Symplocos were registered: S. guianensis, S. nitens and, probably, S. oblongifolia. However, due to a lack of reproductive material, the identification of the last taxon was not confirmed. The species occur in Dense Ombrophilous Forest and Savanna. Symplocos nitens is a new occurrence for Ceará state and was recorded in two Conservation Units in the state.
