Flora of Rio de Janeiro: Cactaceae

Abstract

This work presents the species of Cactaceae occurring in the state of Rio de Janeiro, distributed in “restingas” and the Atlantic forest. 13 genera, 50 species and 8 subspecies are described and illustrated. The genus Rhipsalis is the most diverse in number of species and distributed in most regions of the state. Identification keys, descriptions, illustrations and geographic distribution are presented. The family Cactaceae is represented by the followed genera with the number of species and subspecies: Brasiliopuntia (1 sp.), Cereus (1 sp., 2 subsp.), Coleocephalocereus (1 sp.), Epiphyllum (1 sp.), Hatiora (2 sp.), Hylocereus (1 sp.), Lepismium (2 sp.), Melocactus (1 sp., 1 subsp.), Opuntia (1 sp.), Pereskia (2 sp.), Pilosocereus (2 sp., 1 subsp.), Rhipsalis (29 sp., 2 subsp.) and Schlumbergera (5 sp., 2 subsp.). Rhipsalis barthlotti is designated a synonym for R. crispimarginata.
