Abstract
The taxonomic treatment of the Araceae was conducted in nine fragments of Atlantic forest belonging to the Usina São José, Igarassu, Pernambuco state, Brazil. A total of 18 species and nine genera were found in the region; with eight and three species, Philodendron and Anthurium are the most representative genera, respectively, whereas Caladium, Heteropsis, Montrichardia, Monstera, Syngonium, Taccarum, and Xanthosoma had one species each. An identification key, descriptions, illustrations, notes on geographic distribution, habitat, phenology, leaf heteroblasty and morphological information are presented.
