Comparative study between silicone and silicone with hydroxyapatite coating used as implant material

This study investigated the biocompatibility of alloplastic materials as internal prostheses. We compared the histologic reactions for two different materials: silicone and hydroxyapatite. We prepared test samples of silicone and silicone with hydroxyapatite coating using "wistar" rats. We did subcutaneous implantations on the back side of rats in both samples. Histological specimens were analyzed after 4 months of observation, and it became evident that silicone with hydroxyapatite impactions did not create any fiberform capsules. These results suggest that we can indicate silicone with hydroxyapatite coating as an internal prosthesis.
