OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of physical inactivity during leisure-time among adolescents and young adults. METHODS: A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted among 1,400 young people aged 15-29 years living in the urban area of Feira de Santana, Northeast, Brazil. Physical activities and entertainment were assessed using a structured questionnaire, which addressed the frequency, type, reason, and effort involved. RESULTS: Among interviewed individuals 63.3% (n=795) were considered physically inactive concerning leisure activities. Prevalence was higher among women (p<0.001) and among those 10 to 24 years old (p<0.001).
