The evolutionary approach to the Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)

The main purpose of this article is to discuss the evolutionary approach to the Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). The main arguments developed in Evolutionary Psychology are discussed, which tend to show the adaptive character of this disorder in a primitive environment of social interaction. Throughout the article, the main assumptions connected to the evolutionary paradigm are focused on, and their implications in the philogenetic understanding of one of the disorders that has required the broadest analysis and investigation in the field of Psychiatry. Several adequacies and inadequacies of the aforementioned model are also discussed, together with their explanatory value to understand the current prevalence of ASPD.
