Abstract: The scholarly literature on the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) has privileged its expansionist religious side and the conquest of political power. But a more accurate look can see another way, by which the church builds its public image, that of persecuted minority. From a conceptual discussion on the notion of minority applied to the Brazilian case, I seek to develop indicators, through which a logic of minority can be identified, ruling, alongside its vocation for power, the dynamics of public performance and policy of the church. These are the indicators: its political pragmatism, its position of making alliances and showing respect for political and social mediations, within a framework of religious pluralism in the country.
