Abstract
The success of Brazilian gospel music market at the beginning of the XXI century was followed by an expansion of the academic research that seeks to understand this social phenomenon. The areas that turn to this object also multiply. We can find research being developed in areas such as Religious Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Musicology and Media Studies. The aim of this article is to review these studies, and critically discuss the issues presented in them. It is expected that this critical review can contribute to the development of new perspectives to the study of religious cultural goods and religious practices.
