Religion, university life and youth

Abstract: The article deals with the intersections between religious affiliation and university life, observing the role that students attribute to religion regarding entry into higher education and overcoming the difficulties of the first semesters of academic life. The results of a qualitative research, carried out with graduates from public high school enrolled in different undergraduate courses, indicate tensions between religious ties and academic education, at the same time that the religious contribution acts as a positive stimulus against the demands of the university dynamics. It is also observed that there is a search for more flexible religious arrangements in which the individual and the social are articulated, incorporating aspects linked to cultural and identity dynamics.
