Religion and Politics in Contemporary Brazil: An Analysis of Pentecostal and Catholic Charismatics

Abstract

This article analyzes the perceptions and attitudes of Charismatic and Pentecostal leaders to explain the increasing interest of these groups towards the political sphere. The data indicate the creation of spaces for training political party leaders in both movements, as well as the tendency to submit draft laws together, in conflict with present homosexual and feminist demands in the field of sexual and reproductive rights.
