Abstract: This article provides an analysis of the process of interpretation of religious norms in Mexican converts to Islam who live in Guadalajara, Mexico, and how so-called halal (allowed) practices fit the context and situations experienced by the convert. It is analyzed through interviews and fieldwork, the importance of the incorporation of halal food, its sacralization in daily life and holy days, as well the growth of a halal gastronomic map brought from the food culture of Arab, Turkish or Pakistani origin.
