Emerging themes and trajectories: religion, race and the city in the work of Marcia Contins

Abstract: In this article, part of a tribute series, I approach the intellectual trajectory of professor Marcia Contins and the dialogues we engaged in our research. From the motivations arising from these reflections on her trajectory and production, yet without exhausting the possibilities of nuance and the vast production on the topics, I seek to contextualise her work in a broader context of the debates around key topics of her research: religions (Afro-Brazilian, Pentecostalism and Popular Catholicism), race/ethnicity, the city. Our objective is to highlight the work of Professor Contins, who, throughout her career, presented relevant contributions, exploring the nuances and specificities of the topics under analysis, always sensitive to those that would later emerge and become of more general interest among other scholars.
