“Youth is fun, the problem is if Jesus come back before”: about funk culture, pentecostalism and youths

Abstract:

The article is on the passage made by youngers of the popular classes who, dealing among provinces of meanings with antagonistic appearance, circle between the supposed hedonism of the funk world and the seeming pentecostal asceticism. In the article, will be presented the reports of the Amanda and Yasmin, youngers resident of a slum located in Vitória, Espírito Santo. Belonging to pentecostal cradles, the youngers have went away of the religion and, nowadays, make sociabilities that include funk parties. They demonstrate that, even showing conceptions notably pentecostals, can reinterpret the religious doctrines. As theoretical-methodological tools, are presented its biographical reports, be evident the complexity with that Amanda and Yasmin conceive the own existences and the context in which they live.
