Between Babel and Pentecost: evangelical cosmology in contemporary Brazil

This article presents a new approach about presence of evangelical citizens in brazilian public sphere, especially in political and electoral fields, according to point of view of their specific world vision. We will approach evangelical identity considering phenomenon of pentecostalization, that means quantitative expansion of citizens engaged in Pentecostal denominations and diffusion of typically pentecostal practices among non-Pentecostal denominations and sectors of Catholic Church. This process affects (in bigger or smaller degree) principal Christian churches in Brazil. In contrast with typical modern and post-modern lifestyles, people that expose themselves to pentecostal religious atmosphere tend to make religious sphere becomes central to understand all life and world. Magical conceptions are on the basis of this process. The research indicates that pentecostalization makes this kind of influence among evangelical and catholic citizens, although more strongly in protestant field.
