Estudo piloto sobre esquistossomose mansoni em área rural do Município de Itanhomi, Vale do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais

Data on prevalence and morbidity of Schistosomiasis mansoni, local intermediate host and its rate of infection, in the county of Santa Luzia do Carneiro, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, are presented. A cross-seccionai study demonstrated a figure of 42.1 per cent of positivity for S.mansoni eggs in one faeces parasitoiogic examination by Lutz method (Hoffman, Pons, Janer metod). Liver and spleen eniagement were observed in 6.8 per cent of the patients. The intermediate host B.glabrata showed an infection rate of 3.2per cent.
