A collection of 36.406 bugs from the region of Campinas, São Paulo State, was made during the period of 1974-1981. Of the 33,131 examined, 3,176 (9.6%) were infected with T. cruzi. The majority (30,460 specimens) were collected in out buildings, 4,517 (12.4%) were collected from inside houses and 1,429 (3.9%) found in wild foci. The usual species found was Panstrongylus megistus (33,263 specimens), and this species had the highest infection rate with T. cruzi (10.3%).
