In order to know if it is possible the use of wooden boxes in diagnosing house infestation by Triatoma sordida, a sample of 45 houses and 27 annexes was observed during seven months, beginning in October 1972, in two sites in the county of Guaíra, in the Northern region of the State of S. Paulo (Brazil). The results were considered good for using the boxes in out buildings, but not so for the houses; some possible reasons for this last failure are presented.
