Trends in mortality from cerebrovascular diseases in adults above the age of 20 in S.Paulo, State of S.Paulo, Brazil, 1950 to 1981

The evolution of mortality from cerebrovascular diseases in adults above the age of 20, in S.Paulo, SP, Brazil, from 1950 to 1981, is described, using the age and sex-specific death rates. Stroke mortality is always greater for males and increases with age. From 1970 to 1981 a decline in the mortality has been observed (17.3% for both sexes, 17.8% for males and 16.8% for females). This decline has not been attributed to artifacts. Other studies are suggested to analyse the causes of this decline.
