GENDER, INTIMACY, AND ECONOMY: AN INTERVIEW WITH VIVIANA ZELIZER

Abstract

Viviana Zelizer, an Argentine sociologist who has established her career in the United States and currently holds a position at Princeton University, was awarded the highest honor by the American Sociological Association (ASA) in 2023 for her significant impact and contributions to the field of Sociology. Beyond her seminal work in Economic, Cultural, and Money Sociology, Zelizer’s research has garnered exceptional recognition in gender studies, particularly for her theoretical and analytical framework concerning intimacy, moralities, and family dynamics. This interview delves into the influence of her work on gender studies, as well as her perspectives into caregiving, familial dynamics, and monetary transactions.
