Abstract
This research register places an important Silviano Santiago’s text in the debates over what can be done with the modernist legacy. Also, it questions this cultural movement beyond its most consecrated symbolic mark, the Modern Art Week of São Paulo, of 1922. In 2024, we celebrate the centenary of the modernist trip to Minas Gerais: a good moment to rediscuss the eurocentrism, cosmopolitanism, purity and unity ideals in the Brazilian culture, in addition to the limits and possibilities of our cultural dependence in the world scene.
