ADORNO, READER OF MARX

Abstract

The article aims to analyse the relationship between Theodor W. Adorno’s theory of the culture industry and Marx’s concept of commodity fetishism, as well as Lukács’s concept of reification. The idea is to advocate an interpretation of the concept that draws attention to its systemic character and relates it to a broader theory of domination in the context of late capitalism. The article also aims to discuss the unfolding of the concept within the scope of the constitution of subjectivity and to defend the idea that the core of the culture industry lies in the function that it exerts and not in the content of cultural goods, contrary to what its current interpretation sustains.
