This paper presents two study cases of the Family Health Program (PSF) in the municipality of São Paulo: the PSF of Barra Funda, located in the central district, and the PSF of Parque São Rafael, Jardim Rio Claro, placed in the eastern, part of the city. Both experiences were selected because of their differences on socialdemografics, economics, urbanization and environmental context. This paper reports the experiences in a social-ethnographic description; the PSF teams routine work and their daily problems and growth challenges. From this, the study is characterized as exploratory, focusing on the metropolitan problems, on the challenges of development in an innovative perspective at the environment and health interface, regarding health promotion.
