Perceptions and practices of community health agents about their work with teenagers

The objective of this study was to describe the perceptions and practices of Community Health Agents about their work with teenagers. This is qualitative research with the use of semi-structured interview with 28 agents working at the city of Iguatu urban area, Brazil, and carried out in July 2011. Data analysis followed the method predicted by the Discourse of Collective Subject. The agents involved in the research defined adolescence characteristics based on knowledge and common sense. Agent's action occurs during home visits, through listening and referrals to the Health Unit. These workers' practice is grounded on meetings and on trust, revealing the existence of a path-breaking approach towards adolescents' primary health.
