Environmental citizenship and participation: dialogue and coordination between different knowledge and power

ABSTRACT

In the last decades, biodiversity has been at the center of the debate of the ecological crisis. This discussion has mobilized scientists, politicians, civil society and people around the world appealing to the need to develop sustainable strategies for their preservation emphasizing more holistic approaches between nature, society and culture. In this analysis, we consider that it is essential the deconstruction of social and environmental development, giving priority to the structural aspects that have a close influence on social, cultural and environmental factors, but, especially, to the agency of individuals, demonstrating the plural knowledge they convey and spaces of empowerment and participatory democracy that they require..
