The meaning of adolescent pregnancy to a group of girls with low income in Fortaleza (Ceará State): an approach using art therapy

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to know the meaning of adolescent pregnancy in a low income community in Fortaleza (CE). Comprehensive qualitative study was done with 15 pregnant adolescents using art therapy Four expressive practices were developed, generating three themes: adolescence - happy time, change in adolescence and responsibility for change in family dynamics for the discovery of pregnancy. Adolescents showed a very positive representation of themselves, however with financial difficulties, emotional deprivation, family violence and security problems. The significance of pregnancy showed the maturity of the participants, even without the living experience of the event, correlating this outcome with financial independence and truancy The art therapy technique enabled the reflection to the healthy exercise of sexuality in the study area.
