Taking care of relative with mental disorder: perceived challenges by caregivers about the tasks of caring

Caring for a relative diagnosed with a mental disorder requires the caregiver's assistance in several daily activities, causing difficulties for those who take care. Caring results in difficulties for those who assume take care. The aim is to learn how caregivers help in daily activities and how they perceive the provided care. A qualitative study was performed with eight caregivers of assisted relatives in a Hospital Day. Data were collected in two focal groups and submitted to the content's thematic analysis. It has been observed that the care provided to the relative involves an overload by the accumulation of functions performed by the caregiver's unpreparedness, indicating that mental health equipments need to intercede in caregiver's health and enable them to improve the quality of life and care offer.
